The Hilo Band looks for opportunities throughout the day to collect blood pressure readings when conditions are suitable. Not every attempt will appear in the app, as readings are only recorded during quiet periods when your wrist is still and relaxed. This helps support consistent and reliable trend observations over time.
If movement or other factors interfere, the band waits for a more suitable moment before attempting another reading.
In the Insights tab, you’ll see your average blood pressure patterns from the past 7 days.
By tapping the blood pressure card — or the arrow in the top-right corner — you can open the Detailed Blood Pressure screen. This view displays averaged readings within 2-hour time windows to help you observe patterns over time, rather than focusing on individual readings.
For example:
If several readings are collected between 2 PM and 4 PM, the app may display a single averaged value for that time period.
If readings are collected outside that 2-hour window (for example at 1:55 PM and 4:05 PM), no value may appear for the 2 PM time slot.
Gaps in the graph are shown as hatched areas, together with a short explanation describing why no reading was available during that period.
To view all individual measurements taken, scrolling down on this screen, you can click on “See all readings” or generate a PDF health report: How do I generate a report of all the measurements? How can I share my data with my doctor?
Possible reasons for missing readings include:
In the Detailed Blood Pressure screen, you will now be shown some of the reasons:
Movement
Blood pressure measurements are taken when you are at rest and still. No measurements are taken when you are physically active or moving your wrist.
Band fit
Adjust the strap, so the band rests firmly yet comfortably on the skin. When fitted correctly, you should be able to slide a pencil between the strap and your wrist.
Calibration required
The Hilo system requires regular calibration using the cuff. If calibration is overdue, the band pauses blood pressure trend collection until calibration is completed.
Signal conditions
When your hands are cold, the blood vessels constrict and make it difficult for the band to take a measurement. Keep your hands warm to increase the chances of a successful blood pressure measurement.
Data syncing
Readings are stored on the band before being transferred to the app. In some cases, processing and syncing may take additional time. For extended delays, check your internet connection.
Band out of battery
Keeping your battery charged ensures you get BP measurements throughout the day.
Band was not worn
If you take the band off, remember to put it back on your wrist.
In summary
Hilo Core is designed to help you observe long-term blood pressure patterns as part of everyday life. Because readings are only collected during suitable conditions, some time periods may appear empty in the app.
Continuing to wear the band consistently and comfortably helps create more opportunities to capture readings and build a clearer long-term view of your blood pressure patterns over time.
